What’s that a floating in the breeze?
What’s that soaring in the sky?
What’s got a string, and needs a steady wind?
And what can make you feel like you’re way up high?

Is it a magic carpet? No, it isn’t!
Is it a flattened out balloon? No, it isn’t
Is it a funny shaped moon? No it isn’t!

It’s a kite! So bright! So light, like a feather in flight.
It’s flying! Diving! Scooping! Looping!
It’s fluttering on a string that’s held by you!

What’s like a bird with colored wings?
What’s like a twinkling star by day?
What’s like a rainbow, or a weather vane,
Or an aeroplane that’s jetting far away?

Is it a flying saucer? No, it isn’t!
Is it a rocket ship to Mars? No, it isn’t!
Or one of them funny flying cars? No, it isn’t!

It’s a kite! So bright! So light, like a feather in flight.
It’s flying! Diving! Scooping! Looping!
It’s fluttering on a string that’s held by you!

What’s that all tangled up in the leaves?
What’s that dangling from a tree?
It sure looks like a kite, that’s taken quite a flight,
And had an awful fight with a branch it didn’t see, it didn’t see…

Well, what’ll we do about it? Climb up the tree,
And bring it back down where we can all see
the holes that need mending before it can be
